Separated, but not divorced

Why separated is its own situation, what to say while the paperwork is still going on, and what to leave off the profile.

If you are separated, say separated. Do not write married, and do not write single. A person who reads married will assume a spouse at home. A person who reads single will assume you are free in a way you may not be. "I am separated, the divorce is not finished, and I can meet in the daytime" is a sentence someone can answer.

You do not owe the case. Who left, the solicitor, and the date of the hearing do not belong on a profile. If you still share a house, say that the meeting cannot be at home and cannot be in the evening, if that is true. If you can offer more than that, say the limit you actually have. If you can only meet in the daytime is the longer version of that limit.

Leave your former partner's name, your children's names, and your workplace off the page. Keeping this from your children covers the phone and the family tablet. A web search does not open your profile. Who can see your profile is the list.

This is not the same page as for married women. Married means a spouse at home. Separated means the marriage is over in the way that matters to you, and the paperwork has not caught up. Write the one that is true. If you are still deciding whether you want any of this, thinking about an affair is the earlier question.
