Pick a public place you do not already use with the people who know you. A café in the town centre is easier to explain, and easier to leave, than a bar your friends use or a hotel lobby where you might be recognised. Daytime is quieter to account for than an evening you would otherwise be at home.
Tell one trusted person the place and the time, and nothing else you promised to keep private. They do not need the other person's name or the nature of the arrangement. They need to know where you are and when you should be back. Agree that you will message them when you leave.
Arrive and leave on your own. Sharing a car from a station, or being collected from home, publishes the meeting to anyone who sees the car and removes your way out. A first meeting should look, from the outside, like two people having coffee.
You do not owe a stranger a second venue, a photograph, a surname, or an explanation of your home life. You also do not owe them sex because you agreed to meet. Agreeing to a coffee is agreeing to a coffee. If either of you wants to stop, that is the end of the plan, and it does not need a debate.
Do not post about where you are, and do not check in on a social network out of habit. Take the site off your lock screen before you put the phone on the table. Small habits are how a private meeting becomes a story someone else can tell.
If they push for your house, for a friend to "drop in", or for proof that you are serious, end it. A person who wants a discreet meeting can sit in a café for an hour. Read the guide on how discretion works if you are unsure what should stay unsaid even then.
